Scott D. Trostel’s interest in both trains and Abraham Lincoln has led to two books that are the premier retellings of these two events in the history of the United States.  
 
The Funeral Train traces the journey of Lincoln’s body being returned to Springfield, IL after his assassination in 1865.  The train traveled over 1,700 miles with each of the eleven chapters sharing the details of the planned memorial services conducted en route beginning in Baltimore and his burial in Springfield.  Services were held in Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois.  Over 143 photos, maps and illustrations share the story of a nation in mourning for a revered President.  This book has 224 pages and is approximately 8 by 11 inches. 
 
In July, 2017 a marker commemorating the passage of the train through New Madison in Darke County was dedicated.
