This Civil War unit was composed of mostly free black Ohio men who served in the Union army from April 1864 to September 1865 in Virginia and North Carolina. Their service continued after returning home from the war as they sought full access to the Fourteenth and Fifteenth amendments. This 354-page hardbound book contains photographs, an epilogue, detailed notes, a bibliography, and an index.
