Peggy  Rehmert, Greenville Class of 1971, won the Don Mong framed barn painting from the 2025 Gathering at Garst, with the ticket proceeds going to the Garst Museum.

“I was thrilled when I got the call that I won,” said Rehmert. “It’s amazing how much Don does for the museum, living in Rhode Island and coming back to Greenville. It’s exciting that he does this for the community.”

Mong, a 1975 Greenville High School graduate, lives in Rhode Island with his wife, Sherry, also a 1975 GHS alum, and is well-known for his paintings around the country, especially lighthouses, not only from the East Coast but also from other parts of the country.

“Darke County barns in Ohio are very special,” Mong noted. “Some of them are 200 years old. All the history, crops, and animals raised are very iconic, and I felt like painting a barn. They are almost the lighthouses of the Midwest … everyone likes them.”

Mong has completed many projects for the Garst Museum, with all the proceeds going to support the local museum.

“I am always trying to volunteer to do something,” Mong said. “People seem to like my art, so I use that to promote the museum and the community.”
