The Garst Museum is pleased to announce Washington’s Generals, a year-long lecture series celebrating 250 years of American independence by exploring the key leaders who helped George Washington win the Revolutionary War.
The series opens with “Nathanael Greene: Washington’s Favorite General” on Saturday, February 14, at 2:00 P.M. in the Lowell Thomas Meeting Room at the Garst Museum. The program will be presented by Administrative Director Cait Clark, who will also deliver the remaining lectures in the series throughout the year.
Often considered Washington’s favorite general, Nathanael Greene came from modest beginnings. Seemingly overnight, Greene rose to prominence and solidified his place in history as one of the revolution’s most consequential generals. Washington himself recognized Greene as “the man of the hour,” and this opening lecture will explore the achievements and turning points that earned Greene that praise.
Greene’s story is also Greenville’s story: he is the namesake of Greenville, Ohio, making this kickoff program a fitting way for our community to begin commemorating America 250.
Join us at the Garst Museum for an engaging, accessible presentation that connects national history to local identity.
The Washington’s Generals Speaker Series is free and will take place in the Lowell Thomas Meeting Room at the Garst Museum, located at 205 N. Broadway, Greenville, Ohio. There is an admission fee to tour the museum.
