Garst Museum Office Support Specialist Career Opportunity

Office Support Specialist

Darke County Historical Society/Garst Museum

Does a part-time job during the hours the children are in school sound appealing—extra money with no child-care costs? Is retirement not as you thought it would be—missing people or increased financial concerns?

Garst Museum is hiring for an Office Support Specialist who has strong time-management, technical, and interpersonal skills. Among varied tasks, this “Girl or Guy Friday” will greet visitors, answer and direct phone calls and emails, record and manage Board/Committee minutes, oversee office equipment and supplies, and stock shelves/complete sales for the store. Strong communication skills (written and oral), an aptitude for learning new software, and the ability to work Fridays and Saturdays are necessary.

Do special events sound interesting? Of course, they do! You will have the opportunity to be in on the excitement of the GALA auction and the Gathering at Garst festival.

Perhaps you remember visiting Garst Museum when you were in school. Since then, the museum has grown to include over 300,00 artifacts in its 35,000-square-foot facility. The permanent exhibits of Annie Oakley, Lowell Thomas, Ohio’s Native Americans, the Treaty of Greenville, and the multi-racial settlement of Longtown have received national recognition. Additionally, Garst Museum, as an award-winning institution of excellence, continues to provide educational programs quarterly.

As part of the team at Garst Museum, the Office Support Specialist ensures essential matters in the museum’s efficient operations are handled with attention to detail. If you have that engaging smile and those communication skills to welcome visitors to the museum from all over the country, consider applying for this rewarding position. A full job description is available below.

We welcome strong professionals who are motivated by the mission of the DCHS in preserving the history of Darke County to apply. Help us preserve the past and shape the future of the Garst Museum! Please send your resume, a list of three references, and a cover letter by June 7, 2024, electronically to staffing@garstmuseum.org or via mail to:
