This booklet focuses on the Union Literary Institute Building [ULI] which is located in Randolph County, IN.  The ULI offered the chance to obtain an education for both young black and white students from 1845 to 1914.  Both the ULI and the Longtown Settlement worked together to avoid the conflicts created by the states of Indiana and Ohio in the passage of laws that discriminated against the non-white community.

Published through the partnership of the Union Literary Institute Preservation Society and the  Ball State University Center for Historic Preservation in 2010, the soft-bound book measures 5.5” by 8.5”.  The  un-numbered page book contains a bibliography of sources also.
