In 1812, neither the US Navy nor the Royal Navy had more than a token force on the Great Lakes.  The outbreak of the war sparked a naval arms race that continued throughout the conflict.  The Great Lakes presented a unique challenge for sailing that was not found at sea.  The softbound book is #188 in the New Vanguard series of books published by Osprey Publishing of Great Britain.  The book which measures about 7” by 10” is written by Mark Lardas and is illustrated by Paul Wright. It is 48 pages in length with an index.
