Darke County teacher and author, Cynthia Vogel, has explored some of the women and some men on both sides of the conflict that made significant contributions during this time period.  Included are Levi and Catharine Coffin of Fountain City, IN; Eliza Harris, the inspiration behind Uncle Tom’s Cabin; Jenny Wade, the only civilian killed at Gettysburg; The Moon Sisters, Virginia & Charlotte, a Confederate Sister Act; Elizabeth Keckley who was Mary Todd Lincoln’s seamstress; Arabella “Belle” Reynolds; Rose O’Neal Greenhow, and Elizabeth Van Lew, spies for opposite sides of the conflict; and Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell.  The softbound book measures 8.5” by 11” and contains 150 pages with index.  Photographs or illustrations of some but not all of the women highlighted are included.
